As a youth, Mack Beats expressed a strong inclination for music.  At 7 years of age, he received a small keyboard as a present after asking for one every time he saw one.  Chords and song melodies would come out constantly.  In the sixth grade, Beats played band as the first chair trumpet player.  He enjoyed playing the instrument but felt something was missing.  At 16 Beats discovered a Dr. Rhythm 360 beat machine.  “I finally found the part of music that was missing!” he recounts, “Beats! Percussion!”

The connection was instant!  It was love at first drum pad.  Within minutes, Beats was recording two-bar loops of drum and bass sound patterns.  The machine had a limited group of sounds, but creativity took over and created distinctly separate tracks.  One day at an electronic store, Mack passed by a clearance rack seeing a software called acid.  Seeing acid was a music software, a part of his new-found passion, he quickly jumped at the chance to further develop his art.  After hours of wiring and inputs, the small beat machine finally recorded to the computer software!  This allowed Beats to record multiple patterns into one song, further pushing his creativity to make changing, structured beats.

As the music began to develop into tracks, and then into fully formed instrumentals, friends and family saw talent in the young producer.  Luckily, some of those friends knew a few top-notch engineers in the industry.  Beats made fast friends with these engineers and began to study them.  Like a sponge, Mack Beats soaked up as much as he could and learned the art of engineering.  This lead to Beats engineering live shows for several local artists and bands.  The new skill also allowed for Beats’ own productions to become more creative and polished.  Beats followed this by mixing several artists songs and albums for several close friends without sound engineers.

Mack Beats had always wrote down rhymes when they came to him while listening to instrumentals.  Often, he would think about being a ghostwriter, enjoying the position of producer and engineer.  In the beginning, the lines were abstract and came in pieces of verses.  However as injustices occurred all around him and in the media, Mack Beats’ voice as an artist grew.  There were several things now that he had to say.  He could not write this for someone else, the only person who could deliver these thoughts had to be himself!
